Vehicle Records, Reporting and Customer Resources
Your next step
Before assessment, discuss vehicle history and your concerns. During assessment and repair, review findings, procedure references, scope changes and charges before additional authorization. After repair, review completion checks, the invoice, written warranty and remaining concerns.
Industry software and vehicle-data sharing
We use third-party estimating, diagnostic, repair-management and claims software. Depending on the product, account settings and connected services, information entered during an inquiry, estimate, inspection, claim or repair may be transmitted automatically to software providers, insurers, vehicle-history services or other connected recipients.
Information shared may include vehicle identification, mileage, dates, estimates, damage findings and repair or service records. Some records may appear in vehicle-history reports and affect perceptions of the vehicle’s condition or market value. An estimate or inspection does not mean that repairs were completed.
Please raise reporting questions before we create a record. We will explain the practices and controls available through the systems we use. We cannot guarantee prevention of reporting by other parties or removal of accurate records already distributed. Contact us if you believe information we supplied is inaccurate so we can investigate and pursue correction. This notice does not waive rights provided by applicable law.
A history report is a starting point, not a safety clearance
When a current paid history report is needed, we discuss retrieval, review scope and charges before authorization. We obtain a fresh report and record its retrieval date; a customer-supplied report is not accepted as the current report. Even a newly retrieved report may contain missing or delayed information. An initial inquiry does not authorize a paid lookup.
NMVTIS provides title, brand, odometer and salvage information, not routine repair history. Recall and salvage information can prompt questions, but do not establish the cause of a fault or prove repair quality. CARFAX is a private vehicle-history service, not a government agency. Maintenance records can support buyer confidence; accident or damage records can affect value. Documentation does not erase prior damage.
Keep evidence before, during and after work
Keep dated photographs, mileage, history reports, estimates, authorizations, invoices, test results, written warranty terms and correspondence. Separate what was observed, what was confirmed, what was authorized, what was completed and what remains unresolved. Do not drive or conduct a road test if unsafe operation is suspected; arrange appropriate transport.
Choose the right assistance route
- Repair workmanship or misleading billing: describe your concern to the repairer in writing, request a response and consider a separately authorized independent assessment. If unresolved, review Minnesota AG repair guidance (new tab) and the AG complaint process (new tab).
- Vehicle-sales or disclosure concerns: contact the seller with supporting records, then consult Minnesota AG auto guidance (new tab).
- Insurer claim handling or coverage: ask the insurer for its written explanation and use Minnesota Commerce’s complaint route (new tab).
- Suspected insurance fraud: use the official fraud-reporting channel (new tab) with specific evidence. Poor workmanship or a disagreement alone does not establish fraud.
- Suspected vehicle or equipment safety defect: use NHTSA safety reporting (new tab). This supports safety-defect investigation; it does not resolve an individual repair bill.
- An inaccurate history entry: contact the source of the record and the report provider. CARFAX support provides a correction route (new tab).
External references open in a new tab. Close that tab to return here. These resources do not guarantee reimbursement, correction or a particular legal outcome. Individual coverage, legal rights and fault require the appropriate insurer or qualified professional.
